When I saw this prompt, excitement rushed through me because, yet again, I get to talk about gratitude. Then, on second thought, I questioned if gratitude really is my most commonly felt positive emotion. Thus, I decided to make a list in my journal for each time I felt a positive emotion today. Here’s what I have:
- This morning, I exercised. Afterwards, I felt proud and content. Then, after watching the videos of my workout, I felt grateful for my body and mind and for being able to work out in the first place.
- After working out, I took my dog on a walk. walking with my dog is always fun and it still feels surreal that I have a dog even though it’s been three years. I’ve spent my entire childhood begging my parents to get one, so I’m really grateful they finally agreed.
- Next, my friend from Boston sent me a funny tik tok. I’m grateful to have gone to Boston this summer!
Even though the day isn’t over, I’m pretty certain that gratitude is the positive emotion that I feel most often. Even if it’s not directly that emotion, it’s always a predecessor or after-effect of my happiness. Research also strongly supports that gratitude contributes to higher levels of happiness and peace, which I mention in one one of my other blog posts about creating peace.
To end off, I want to say that journaling has trained me to be subconsciously and consciously more grateful. It started during lockdown during the COVID pandemic. Every morning, I would write out a list of things I was grateful for. I guess that habit carried over really well to today! If you’re every wondering of what to journal about if you’re just starting, I’d definitely recommend starting with a gratitude list like I did.
Anyway that’s all I have for this post. Till next time,
Moesha.
