What if I told you that finding your purpose in life isn’t supposed to be very challenging? What if you’re supposed to know it as easily as you complete your daily habits? What if it’s that easy?
Something I’ve mentioned before in this blog is how much we can determine about ourselves based off of our habits:
Our habits are an important indicator of who we are and who we believe ourselves to be. Analyzing them allows us to explore our values, motivations, relationships, fears and more.
-Daily Prompt: 7/10/23: What time do you go to bed and wake up currently?
But why does reflecting about our values, motivations, and fears even matter? Think about it like a boxing match: before a fight, the players are supposed to study their opponent. They do this in order to uncover any strengths, weaknesses, and “commonly used moves” their opponent may have. Really, they’re studying patterns in order to predict their opponent’s actions so they can change their own accordingly to win.
However, instead of an adversary, you have yourself. And instead of trying to take yourself down in a boxing match, you’re trying to take yourself higher on the spectrum of self-improvement.
I honestly can’t say I’ve had an easy time figuring out myself, my values, and my purpose in my life. But I do, in fact, take time to reflect about my strengths, weaknesses, and “commonly used moves”. I’ve learned to recognize patterns in my behaviors and thoughts so I can either acknowledge them well or try to redirect myself. By examining my habitual thoughts and actions, I’ve realized that my values are rather simple to determine. And from my values, I can create my own purpose in order to align with aspects I care about. Some of my “good” daily habits, besides journaling, are:
- waking up and sleeping early
- exercising and cooking
- praying
- calling my parents at the end of the day for a few minutes
That’s all I have for this post! It’s getting close to my (early) bed time.
Till next time,
Moesha.
