Daily Prompt: What is one thing you would change about yourself?

If we’re being real here, everyone has something they’d change about themselves.

Maybe you want to change your personality– like anxiety-levels or pet-peeves. Or a behavior– like negative self-talk or gossiping. Or maybe you simply want to change your bank account balance (don’t we all LOL).

When I was reading through other bloggers’ responses about this prompt, a lot of them were exactly those above. Either they’d have something specific or that they said they would change nothing at all. I guess my initial reaction to the question was I’d change nothing too, but I immediately knew I was lying to myself. There are many things I’d like to change, or improve.

I guess feeling like I want to change myself feels weird to admit in writing. Maybe I feel even a little guilty.

“Changing something/someone” usually connotes that there was something wrong with them to begin with; that they need to be changed because their original version wasn’t complete enough. However, it is not because of change that we become complete and whole beings, but because we recognize goals that we haven’t reached yet– our self-reflection and desire to change is what makes us human.

Something I write about a lot on this blog is that change is inevitable. It shouldn’t have a negative connotation. Wanting to change ourselves isn’t a bad thing, it just means we want to embrace the growth that is bound to come, regardless of if we want them to or not.

Thanks for reading this (short) post! Till next time,

Moesha.
