When this prompt was released, I was sure that finding 10 facts would be simple. Things like:
- our plantes revolve around the sun
- gravity keeps us from floating in space
- everything is made up of atoms
While, yes, I believe these things, I realized that at one point everyone believed that the sun revolved around us; the concept gravity is a theory; and before atoms were discovered, everyone believed solids were purely static. All of these prior beliefs changed with time.
No matter what age we are in, what we believe as facts is allowed to change, and most likely will. How do we know that a century from now we won’t discover a new planet? A new force? Or a new subatomic particle? It’s not that outlandish; in fact, it’d be pretty close-minded to believe that what we know today as facts will remain this way forever.
Besides, everything we “know” has really only been created by humans and our systems: the concepts of color, time, language, and even morals. All of these change with the person, time, location, and our own pre-set minds and beliefs.
What I’m getting at is the only thing that is certain is change, itself. People change, concepts change, science changes. Nothing is every static.
But can you think of something you know for certain? Can you find a way to challenge that mentally? Can it change eventually?
That’s all I have for this post, so it’s going to be shorter than most of my other ones.
Till next time,
Moesha.
