Daily Prompt (4/18/2024): Strangers Who Aren’t Really Strangers– The Invisible String Theory

Daily writing prompt
Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve updated on here. College has gotten so incredibly time-consuming. Lately, I’ve noticed my complete focus on school while I turned a blind-eye towards my hobbies such as blogging.

I’ve realized it’s times like these where we need to take a moment to slow down and reflect on whether or not we’re still aligned towards our goals and greater-purpose, or if we’re merely going along with our work days. Of course, pausing is easier said than done. Even I didn’t take time to self-reflect until yesterday when I randomly had the opportunity to learn from a stranger– a surgeon at the hospital near my college.

Through my club, some students and I had the opportunity to learn how to suture! Originally, I wasn’t going to go, as I had a class during that time. However, through a twist of events, a tornado cancelled my class (a little bizarre, I know!). Thankfully, my college campus was left untouched and I was also able to go to the suturing event.

There, I met a surgeon. He and I connected immediately due to our Indian heritage and passion for healing. Talking to him was eye-opening for me; this is because when you’re talking to someone who is passionate and aligned with their goals, you’re inspired to focus on your own as well. While I not only learned how to stitch up wounds, I also learned a lot about his views on life as someone who lives in his passion of surgery and medicine everyday.

He told me, “Once you know your ‘why’, the path becomes clearer too. And it’s for you to decide, there are no wrong answers”.

I feel very grateful that I was able to attend the event yesterday and meet him. And in a way, I feel as if I were meant to be reminded of my ‘why’ by him! I mean, there was a whole tornado that directed me to go to this event.

Thinking about this led me to wonder more about everyone we ever meet in our lives. There’s this idea called the “Invisible String Theory”, which basically states that you meet everyone in your life at exactly the right time and place you’re meant to; not earlier or later. This is because there’s a (hypothetical) invisible string always connecting you and the other person, which only gets shorter when you’re going to meet. Some people also call this Divine Timing.

For most of us, we have yet to meet some important people in our lives– our future friends, coworkers, and even spouses. But maybe we are already connected to them; Maybe this means these strangers were never actually strangers to us.

I encourage everyone reading this to think about people in your lives who you met by chance, but they completely altered your life in some way. Perhaps you were this person for someone else. 🙂

I know I’m incredibly grateful for my “invisible string” people and the lessons they taught me in my life.

Anyway, that’s it for this post. Hopefully I’ll be able to update soon again!

Moesha. ❤
